It would be a big mistake to think the poorly equipped and trained Russia ground troops are a reflection of its Nuclear readiness. Yes they have huge numbers of nuclear weapons (5,200 total and 1,500 deployed, same as the US). However, Putin himself have been directing its two pillars of nuclear deterrence (air is no longer a viable delivery system) Hypersonic misled and submarines. These have been update and are state of the art. The ground forces of Russia have been under the control of the military bureaucracy. Seeing the rampant corruptions all around the them, they have been siphoning off military budgets into their own pocket for 20 years. Putin didn’t know or didn’t care as long as they performed when called upon. They pulled off Georgia, Chechnya and Syria, to Putin all was well. He need to keep the military happy as in fat and happy. The nuclear arsenal is up to date including battle field nukes. Are we really interested in a “Cuba” moment in 2022? I say no!
