I understand your skepticism. I was pulled into the evangelical movement in the late 80’s and sent my child to “Christian Schools” until he was 13. I then realized that the education was almost all religious indoctrination and less education. Additionally my child is Gay and born that way (I knew this since about 6 years old) and the schools did nothing but preach religious purity (abstinence is dangerous doctrine to expect of adolescents) and the anti-gay agenda, no tolerance or love, just damnation. It was more than my child and I could stand. I did all I could do to protect my offspring from the religious bigots and hypocrites. It took years of healing for my child to become themselves in truth and their own relationship with the creator. That said, I am a reformed evangelical and do not attend any church except the occasional Sunday that I accompany my mother to a Catholic Church, which I am not a member or even supporter. Their many doctrinal inconsistencies, many changes to the original bible books, removing much wisdom, 2000 year history of oppression and recent disclosure of systematic sexual abuse is not the church I want to be a member of. However, anything to make mom happy while modeling a different type of Christianity. Focused on my personal relationship with my creator, Jesus Christ, the bible, and many ancient religious texts and personal life experience. May both halves of your brain, be blessed! May the Lord keep you, may his countenance shine upon you and give you grace! Thanks for the reply!
