Good read and Great questions. The problem is not a $22 min wage that’s about $45K per year. The problem is that using underpaid workers who can not afford to work at the prevailing wage. These are not the average teenager job anymore. The lack of income per person is offset by government programs like food stamps, welfare, housing assistance and medical insurance coverage. Walmart tells their workers upon hire to go apply for all the government benefits they can based on lack of income. Giant multinational corporation are using subsidized labor to increase their profits. I am not for that. However as a small business owner over 40 years, I truly understand the hardships new and smaller operations have making payroll, payroll taxes, workers comp etc. truly small businesses should have exemptions that a worker can weigh before hire. Giant souls sucking corporate criminals (mostly), need to pay their own way and fair share. They have a social responsibility for the privilege of operating in America. We consume 25% of all goods ever made in America, if they want to leave the market, Someone else willing to play by fair rules will step in. Our market is the most profitable in the world!
